I found voluntary work for my running club was a good substitute (an admin. /commercial role which was similar to work). Then training and DIY took up the slack.

I've just spent a couple of hours filing tons of papers away. Most of the big files are my pensions stuff going back for yonks. Thankfully all my pensions are crystallised now so I can start chucking the older stuff. Soon. I'll do it soon.

I spent my entire adult life until retirement either preparing to be useful or actually being useful. I don't expect to need to provide any more evidence of usefulness, ever.

I try to be useful to my kids, family and friends if they need. I guess the thing is to operate according to your own definition of useful, not what any employer thinks.

Nice thing about EVs is electric defrost is quick and no engine running. Toasty inside car too! :-) G

Was it Paul Scholes, footballer, who started his career running and went back inside while it defrosted/warmed up only for some scrote to hop in and drive it off?

The woman over the road used to do that until a couple of years ago. I was away at the time so missed the excitement. The engine was running, she went back inside and some toe-rag jumped in and started racing up the road. He stopped when the 9 year old kid started screaming to let him out then was chased all over town by the police until they finally caught him. The car was written off but the insurance didn't pay up as she'd left the car with the key in it and the engine running.
