if I stay and get VR next year it's an extra £1500 roughly but if I went PT and then they asked for VR my payment would be calculated on PT pay so less than what is on offer now Bigger boss did say about more auditing stuff so I could say I am withdrawing PT request to see what this is all about and then give myself a deadline. i.e no news by X date and I go rather than go PT as I would have had a few extra months of full pay |

All the uncertainty you’ve had for such a long time surrounding VR would’ve played havoc with my mental health EvilPixie I’m not denying it.

I would hang in there full time until February. It will come round soon enough! Then either take VR on an extra year of full time pay or leave.

ally it's not great! Hann this is what I am starting to think but then given how long it's taken this time Feb could be August! |

That's a problem, isn't it. Deadlines that keep slowly moving back. Must be so frustrating.

I would just go with the PT request. You’re not really enjoying the job, so isn’t time more important than money? And if it’s only rumours about Feb, who knows.

In the early 2000s I was in a job that I hated. I hung on for about 6 months hoping that some shares that I held would become valuable (dot com bubble times for anyone who remembers their history), could have been six figure sum. Eventually bailed - 21 years later, the shares that I held would still not have had any big value. Moral? Don't hang on for jam tomorrow! G |

Other consideration depending on amount is tax. First £30k of any payout is tax free, but after that you pay tax. Reducing hours might not have as big an impact on payout if no or less tax paid

I'd agree with ^ pix. Not worth hanging on unless you're sure there might be a second wave of redundancies. Similar things happened to Mr Ness when he worked for the FFS. He wasn't chosen in the first wave of redundancies, but did go in the second wave of redundancies. This much to one of his colleague's disgust. The colleague didn't want to leave and had been made redundant (in the first wave) and knew that Mr Ness wanted to go but didn't get redundancy (the difference between the value if you volunteered or if they chose to make you redundant was significant enough that we couldn't afford for Mr Ness to go voluntarily). The whole of the FFS was shut down a few months later so the 'second wave' ended up being everyone else! Mr Ness had ticked off an extra year's service so got a much bigger payout than if he'd gone in the first wave of redundancies. |
