Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Ah, will be interesting to know what you think Linds. I ended up buying it as I waited a long time with it on order at the libraries, so it’s obviously popular.

Yellowface was the Book at Bedtime a few weeks ago. These are abridged versions so I may be being unfair to the actual novel, but I didn't warm to it at all.

Just finished Restless by William Boyd, which I got from the library. I really like this author. I’ve also ready A Good Man In Africa and Brazzaville Beach. Restless did not disappoint. Great story and great characters.

Also love The Blue Afternoon. It has one of the most heart-rending scenes I’ve ever read. I’ve read most of Boyd’s work and the only ones I didn’t like that much were A Good Man in Africa and Stars and Bars.

I like some of Boyd's work but find him a bit uneven - some great, some were no better than OK. In fairness I've not read anything of his I really didn't like. I read The Blue Afternoon some time ago and can remember nothing about it.

Don’t think it was, but I agree, it was not one of his best

TBA has a fabulous beginning or prologue too. My friend made me read it in a book shop and I immediately bought the book.
