Leaving aside Barrowman's 'indiscretions', I thought that the Eve Myles character in 'Torchwood' was developed interestingly, admittedly by a team of scriptwriters. Myles for the next Doctor? |

Interestingly, of the original 2 series, RTD only wrote the first episode of Torchwood. Chris Chibnall was the dominant writer. RTD wrote a lot of Children of Earth, which was by far the silliest series. He only wrote a couple of episodes of Miracle Day. Oh and btw in case anyone hasn't seen this: bbc.co.uk |

Thanks, fozzy. I think my attention had wavered after the 1st series of 'Torchwood'. Chris Chibnall seems to have taken flak, here and in reviews, for the variable quality of scripts in the Whittaker era. He's not short of experience in matters Dr Who. |

Eve Myles would make a fabulous Doctor with good writing. Thanks for the link Fozzy.

Just caught up. Agree it was disappointing, especially as I liked the Christmas one. Trailer does promise better for the next one though.

Thanks for the link, fozzy. I do think a bit of redaction might help Doctor Who's more recent incarnations!

Also thought poorly of the Sea Devils one. And like Dibble, the New Years Day one I really enjoyed. The first five minutes were a mess: not where they intended but actually dressed for it; Doctor's earings nearly ripped off but nothing else affected; was it raining or not; how did the father take so long to cross a village of 20 people; where did the trap with the net come from? It calmed down after that, and I liked some of core ideas with the legends etc. But as well as all the specific other complaints, it had that general problem that many Doctor Who episodes have of there being no drama. A sequence of things happen in rapid order and that's as close to a narrative as you get. 2/5 |

I wonder if there is a longer cut somewhere destined for a subscription service that didn't fit into the available slot on the BBC? The editing / continuity was all over the place wasn't it. I'm not normally someone who sees that sort of stuff, but it was so blindingly obviously "wrong" that even I couldn't ignore it! |
