Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

At least Alan Davies would be earning his keep on Dr who. He earns money for old rope on QI.

I dislike him on QI, especially when Phill Jupitus is also on (they come across to me like two schoolboys desperate for attention) - but he came across rather better in Taskmaster the other day, so might not be an awful choice.

I'd like it to be someone relatively unknown, perhaps someone more known for stage than screen - and someone likely to stick around for a good set of series. Lately it seems like "3 series and out", which is quite a churn imo.

Alan Davies has been peddling old rope for 20 years, QI is well past it.

I would go with unknown but incredibly unlikely, not in the current world. I guess the actors don't want to get stuck, the series seem to take up a whole year.

Hartnell 63-66 (4)
Troughton 66-69 (4)
Pertwee 70-74 (5)
Baker 74-81 (9)
Davidson 82-84 (3)
Baker 84-86 (3)
McCoy 86-89 (4)
McGann 96 (1)

Eccleston 05 (1)
Tennant 05-10 (6)
Smith 10-13 (4)
Capaldi 14-17 (4)
Whittaker 18-21 (3)

Other than Tennant and Baker, no actor playing the Doctor has lasted more than 5 years. The modal value being 4.

The current run is no different to the earlier runs.

It *seems* that the other actors were around much longer because each story pre-1989 was serialised into shorter episodes.

In the 15yr Hiatus, production values changed and we developed into the single story long 1hr format.

Years <> series.

And QI is ok, now that Toksvig chairs it, but was unwatchable when Fry presented. And is regularly unwatchable depending on who the guests are (ie Phill Jupitus amongst others)

And Series pre-1989 <> Series post 2005.

Different production values, styles, timescales etc etc.

But if you prefer:
Hartnell 4 series (29 stories)
Troughton 3 (21 stories)
Pertwee 5 (24)
Baker 7 (41)
Davidson 3 (20)
Baker 3 (8)
McCoy 3 (12)

McGann 1 (1)

Eccleston 1 (10)
Tennant 4+ (inc specials as 1) (36 stories)
Smith 4+ (inc specials as 1) (39)
Capaldi 3 (35)
Whittaker* 2 (20)

+specials running over a year = 1 series in this count
*to date

Shows the same story as the years as the Doctor.
