Alive and kicking! Just got myself some lovely free firewood, FREE heat! Had to go and forage for it myself though, so marginal cost involved in chainsaw petrol and car diesel...

To be honest I forgot about the thread, which is a pretty poor show given that I started it!

It is spring, I am planting and sowing veg from the seeds I have left over from last year, that will make for even cheaper/freeer veg ;)

We managed a couple of winters of free heat by helping the farmer across the road pull trees out of ditches in exchange for logs. The farmer has moved now though.
Wood and coal here is quite expensive because it is a necessity.

Sick of being skint now though. Got paid back end of last week, now all the bills have come out and I have my bike insurance to pay next week, then the rent then that's all the money gone!

(Bike is also a necessity as I use it to get to work. Although I am going to speak to my colleague and see of we can car share.)

I said to my mate I might race tomorrow, and if I did that I'd drive.
Now having checked my finances (see above!) not sure if I can afford either the race entry fee, nor the petrol to get us there.
As it stands, I haven't committed yet, so I wouldn't be letting anyone down if I didn't go.

No lottery win. No longer a skint student and don't have to be so frugal but still keen to live for less.

I have managed to live off very little in my first year of redundancy and don't feel skint. I am still keen to be as self sufficient as I can be and take great delight in foraging for food and wood, as well as managing a shop in Waitrose for very little. Usually I go to Aldi though...

The car is the single most expensive thing and I wished I could do without :(

My bikes are insured on the household policy. As I stopped racing and working I could no longer afford the additional permium.

Getting some free rescue hens soon, so free eggs and barter material galore :)

I have developed a whole network of bareters: doing a drawing course for example, in exchange for a yoga therapy session and did some photography the other day for a free opera ticket :)
