I've managed not to spend any money on food this week, apart from a pint of milk yesterday - no. 2 son has now gone to Uni, so I'm eating my main meal at school and not bothering to cook in the evening. My Dad is coming to visit me in my new house this weekend, however, so I will have to buy some stuff - but will be using the contents of the freezer as far as possible as well. I need to find ways of saving as much as possible with the vicious and unexpected bill I had for the car service :-(

Long and rather stressful conversation with a mortgage man from the bank earlier this week, but it looks as if they will allow me to borrow the money I need to rewire the house and put central heating in. I don't think I will be going on holiday again for the rest of my life, or buying any clothes, and eating may become a bit of a luxury as well ...... :-O

Some positive news in that I've discovered I can claim the money back for my monthly contact lenses from the healthcare plan I have at work, and I will be getting the 25% council tax reduction now no. 2 son is living at Uni :-)

Swings and roundabouts!

Schnecke - I'm so glad I took 9 months out to travel 10 years ago because I need to live off those memories! I won't be having a holiday ever as far as I can see. Mortgage and bills are too big a burden and I'm only on a short-term contract so need to find a new job by end Jan 2013.

I had good news about the car :) Nothing wrong with it and the garage didn't charge for looking it over to make sure :) :) :)

Also, I had my cyclocross race wheels re-built with new rims and spokes, but not enough spokes were ordered. It was getting tight before my race, so they managed to re-use the old spokes for the front wheel, saving me £32 :) They also refused to take any money for the labour of re-lacing the hubs onto new rims :) :)

Then I found the chocolate oranges in tesco's, as well as the crema caramel, 6 pots for £0,70 bargain :)

Also, th boiler is working again, it was the thermostat! I managed to find a new one on line for £46 and the plumber took cash :) :)

RS - hopefully you have lots of good travelling memories to keep you going! I mustn't complain as I've had some good holidays over the years, and I'm going to New York with my Dad next half-term (Dad's paying!)

Sounds like a good week, Hann :-)

I LOVE NY :)

I am lucky enough to have friends that live in Brooklyn, so last year in february I saw an offer on flights, only £180 return and I went for 5 days :)

Would love to go again, but not got the money right now...

Too Much Water
Bought dinner today as I stayed at work until 2330, (I had to have something I'd skipped breakfast and lunch as working flat-out), but I did 6.5 hrs OT so end the day in profit I suppose

Hoping to go to Sth Africa in Q4 next year so need to start saving for that. If I can get everything done in my house this weekend I should almost be ready for a lodger.

RS, the smallest hi-viz jacket would have been huge on me, so you could probably have used it as a tent.

I thought the Aldi cycle kit was all rubbish. In Whitehaven, which has a big cycling community, there was loads left on Friday afternoon.
