No core session today. It was wet and horrible and my group were all doing other things. I'll have a session after tomorrow's run instead.

I saw this routine on twitter at the weekend and thought I'd have a crack at it. Is it really humanly possible to do a side plank with one leg (top or bottom) floating off the ground??? kinetic-revolution.com

Yes it is Susie. You need good control and possibly a bit of arm strength, but challenge yourself to try it.

Haven't followed the link, but that's how we do our side plank in my pilates class. Side plank, then raise top leg into sort of star shape. I can only hold that for 10 or 20s, then need to lower it. Actually, works the glute more than the oblique, imho. But if the link means both legs off ground (just balancing on your arm?!) then that would be beyond me! :-)G |

there were two versions HG - one as you describe in a sort of start shape which is for working the glute. the other version, you keep your top leg straight and your lower leg off the ground, sort of hovering it out in front of you a little which was for the inner thigh (IIRC). Needless to say I didn't manage a whole minute of each version but I'll keep working on it!

It's the single best glute activator, according to something I read on the internet... How do you think the Rokeby Venus got her arse? She's just having a spot of recovery after a 45 second effort. |

I did a core class at my work gym today. Really good session, but it did show up that I've niggled my right shoulder somehow as side planks on that side were a touch achey.

I do a kettlebell class once a week now. It's like going back to run-walk.
