LOL ITG that is exactly why I haven't posted where I am for a bit. A B road, in Wales, pleasantly green but not very exciting. Although I have popped into Abergavenny for the day and just missed a castle.
GC has decided to join the challenge *yesterday* and has a bit of catching up to do

Happy birthday, Sushi!
CW, it would be fab to have an Iceland tour but I'm not clever enough to do Things with maps. I could find 12 sites of extraordinary nature (13, I suppose, since you need a starting point, unless we use KeflavÃk airport). It might need to be more than 600 miles, though, because we only have one big road that goes all the way round.

hahaha, suppose. Let's finish this first, but if Synge would be willing to help out, we could arrange a new adventure. We could restart every 6 months with a new route

There may have been a bit of a conversation about another challenge!
Developing a route and seeing how participants respond to it has been fascinating. I must say, though, that although Iceland is right near the top of the list of countries that I would visit again IRL, my thoughts on designing a route there are that it might be a little bit like the virtual route that several of us are now negotiating in New Zealand (see "Journey of the Ring"). It sounds really attractive ... but there are lots of long straight roads that seem to go on for days. Having driven round most of the ring road that ITG mentions, yes there are landscapes and views to die for, but I am not sure how well they would translate to a virtual challenge.
Under consideration at the moment is another UK challenge. (Maybe with a bit of Scotland in it ... would that be of interest, ITG?) One big attraction of that is that the majority can virtually visit places they know.
Anyway, as you quite rightly say, let's finish this one first. It's still early days for most of us!
