So accepting my lack of time on the MTB or cross bike

Race 3 of my very short CX season was a trip to Wessex League, more bad luck wasn't enough to hide my poor skills in real CX conditions. I just couldn't cope well enough in the real mud with the front moving around the way it did. There were no crashes but it was close.

Although it has been fun I have decided to end my season at this point with a view to regrouping and racing cross on 2019.

I had hoped to ride the last National round and maybe Nationals but I don't have the time to train specifically and although fit I am too far from where I need to be skill wise.

Sometimes you need to be honest with yourself.

At least you know and you didn’t crash / hurt yourself. Plenty of time to build the skills back up for next year. Maybe do some MTB racing in the summer...?

Given your previous posts G I did half expect you to enter Shrewsbury and Cyclopark but it's probably a good decision to prep for 2019 cross.

I think if you are going to do that then racing on 2 inch+ tyres will only partially help when Cx is on 32mm, might be better to try some gravel racing on 40mm such as Wales 360, linky not attaching unfortunately, google it

New Surly Troll is awesome. Just trying our bag combinations but I reckon I can bikepack now with nothing on my back 😀

If I was going to pick a do-everything bike, I’d expect it to be the crosser... Wrong, though.

The same bike in the same week for a 10 mile TT *and* a MTB event - turned out to be the Fatbike.

No glory in either event but no guts either 😝

Since the last appearance of Kaph, some time ago... there are now three wheel sizes, and now new plus (+) tyres for the even more adventurous!

26 / 27.5 (650b) / 29 / 27.5+ (650b+) / 29+ / fat
whatever you ride, enjoy it :)

Gravel also welcome :)

Also, is 26 dead yet?
