Thank you for pointimg out my fai g to accurately quote sources etc, but it isn't always feasible to be academic while on the hoof, posting about something you are passionate and find your original sources that informed your opinion. These are stored away in my library, so here is an unscientific article from the Grauniad. I was going to quote from this article, but my phone won't let me copy and paste, so here is the whole thing...

And if you check: even as of a few days ago, Bill Gates keeps acquiring ever more farmland and is the single biggest private owner of farmland.

Sorry, not foot note worthy but then again, I just wanted to purvey the gist, on a running forum, rather than present an academic paper. I am no longer a writer and journalist or academic. I decided, in 2014, I was going to DO and ACT rather than shout and theorise... My individual focussed actions over the last 8 years have achieved more than 30 odd years of my shouting, writing, talking, protesting, chaining myself onto fences and gates etc etc...

The Blue Campaign is a national campaign to encourage residents to look after a grass verge: bluecampaignhub.com

They have also added: "To mitigate any complaints regarding perceived neglect of such areas, we recommend erecting blue hearts on a wooden post to alert members of the public to the project. These can be made from recycled materials or bought from our online shop. We use cornflower blue on our official hearts, but any shade will do!"

There's quite a difference, Hanneke, between failing to quote sources and spouting a load of absolute rubbish, which, in my opinion, does nothing but discredit the points you wish to make.

I did watch a video on the city of Nor'ilsk in Russia the other day. Heavily industrialised, chimneys belching out noxious gases dominating the landscape, life expectancy of around 60.

I actually think the Supreme Court look at that as some kind of utopia.

It's hard to get inside the heads of apparently well educated men and women who have such a huge blind spot around pretty clear scientific evidence, and with a strong political bias - especially when they are the supreme judicial body in the country, but are willing to follow a political line rather than a neutral one that promotes the longer term greater good of more people.

Whatever I may think of our political leaders, I'm glad to live in the UK where there is a more reasonable discussion.

I do wonder if the educational systems of the US Vs UK/European countries has played a larger part in environmental policy than we realise.

I think its quite easy to get inside their heads. The words 'Old' and 'Testament' come to mind. But that's another discussion.

About This Thread

Maintained by HappyG(rrr)
Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
