We discussed this a few pages back. I really really like my new electric chainsaw, all the reasons had says, but it’s hard to use safely when processing the woodpile on my own. I much prefer a nice sharp bowsaw for that.

I have a really effective bulk log stand saw horse (off ebay) which holds a substantial stack of logs very securely and then a few cuts with the chainsaw can slice the whole lot up in a few seconds. We had to have a full sized sycamore taken down a few years ago and it kept me busy for a long time, but since then I've also been called into service by my mother and others... One of these in fact: ebay.co.uk |

Agree Fields, poor policy making, driven by cost/profit. But... the fact that they are empty is due to exceptional times, i.e. the Coronavirus pandemic. But yes, there could/should be better ways to maintain a tick on a list than burning aviation fuel for an empty plane. See also burning waste gas in oil extraction and refining etc. And that's nothing to do with pandemic! G |

I think it's more simply poor consideration not to adjust the airport rules for the pandemic rather than the economic system of capitalism. In China, though they are making great strides in offshore renewable, in a number of cases the electricity generated is not linked to the China grid due to the command economy objectives that are linked to coal production being greater priority at this time. I could say that is a communist response, but I suspect the reality is that through (slow) change, that position will improve. |

Gas flaring is thankfully coming down - like other industries, reducing the CO2 footprint of O&G production is something being addressed. Similar to CO2 from our vehicles, unnecessary plastic packaging (I see the French have taken strides to try and ban this from 1 Jan), and land use. Denmark and Sweden have legislated that domestic flights will have to be fossil free from 2030 / 2045 though the technology is not yet there to make this happen. France are planning to ban short domestic flights. some positive steps from other European economies. bbc.co.uk |
