The Doctor K Cup

6 lurkers | 98 watchers
The seventh annual Doctor K Cup will take place on Saturday October 19th 2024

How to join in

Firstly, add the 2024 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio.

All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).

It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.

NB A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.

Its on my blog as well.

So here you join me today at a dry but overcast Lincoln as we countdown to the start of the annual Dr k Cup. A time when fetchies come together to celebrate the lives of those in our community who have gone before. Let us take a moment to reflect and remember Dr K, Steady Edina, Pricey and Tigerlily.

And as we now feel the tension mount from Inverness to Jersey, from Liverpool to Littlehamptin, incidentally Little Hampton is something that was used as a derogatory term at my school for a man with a small todger. But back to the race, we are represented by 44 fetchies at 36 different locations in a record line up.

So now we head to the start of this momentous race and we are under starters orders.

On your marks, set, booooooooooom!!!!

And they are off.

Early news that the Kiwi Crusader, Wine Legs is out of the race, she is feeling off colour but don't worry, Binks has the kids. Sadly liebling is also feelng under the weather and has withdrawn, no dount she will be back next year.

Early news from Widnes where the pre race favourite has topped running! The marvellous medic, the daring doctor, Velociraptor has stopped to help a fallen runner and forsaken her own race. Heroics from the locum from the lakes.

As we head South to QE park Serendippily has not quite managed to break her record from last year. her pacing has improved and she is only 11 minutes and 28 seconds off the pace this year.

It is a tough race for SallyKate at Hilly Fileds and Doric Quine in Inverness and the pacing has not quite gone to plan.

Over to Clitheroe where XB is going well but wait, Hilda is cramping, HILDA IS CRAMPING!!!!!! she has stopped and left XB in no mans land. He is out of contention this year.

Over to Croxteth Park to see how the scouse scuttler is doing in his 100th parkrun, well im afraid its the same old story for BigLeggy, 3 minutes and 4 seconds out is not going to win the cup. The cup wont be going to Yorkshire either, way too much fun being had with richmac, Northern Slow Coach and WA and they are well off the pace.

Mentions for Carpathius, Joopsy, Hells Bells, Leaguefreak and Snogard, but that is all they are getting this year.

And what of the website wizard from Wales I hear you ask? Well he has some talents but pacing isnt one of them, Fetch is nowhere in the ranking.

Fragile Do Not Bend, meadowsboy, TomaHawkMike, 12 barDavid, Westmoors, McGoohan, Dvorak and CumbriAndy, all notable mentions but they just not with the form today.

Battlecat is not feeling the love at Valentines Mr and Mrs Shanksi are stoned in Stonehaven. Darlo and Badger both sneak in to the top 20 and its a fine debut from the Croydon cracker, Diogenes.

Things are hotting up at the front of the field now. Eynsham red, feret and Fenland Runner have all put in fine performances and are each under 50 seconds from prediction.

DocMoye and son have been superb in St Albans but only good enough for 12th and 13th place.

Into the top ten now and you have really go to be on your game to stay with this crowd. In the channel islands Wombling Plodder puts in a great performance for 10th place.

Just in front is Mrs Jigs who is tied for 8th place with 57.5 degrees of pain.
7th place goes to sinj999 with 21 seconds and 6th to Stotty in Great Denham, only 16 seconds away.

Do you want to be in the top 5 of this crowd? Well if you do you have to be within 10 seconds of your predicted time. In joint 4th place we have the sober scotsman and dance loving divorce lawyer, :)G(rrr) and Big chief running bore.

Down to Bexley now for an astonishing debut from GordonG, 9 bloody seconds from target. What a guy.

So we are now neck and neck with the final two.

Will this years title go to the swimming sensation, the Bedford bomber, KatieB? Is she even here? Yes she is here and she is incredibly just 5 seconds away from her prediction. Boy she needs to give her husband some lessons on pacing.

Word in from Scotland that LipGloss may be out of the running, she is feeling decidedly ill but we are not sure whether this will improve or hinder her performance. But wait here she comes now, this is going to be tight. Listen to the crowd as she heads towards the finish funnel.

She is through the finish, her prediction was 30:25, what does the watch say?

IT'S 30:28!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOOD GOLLY GOD!!!!!!!!!!
She has gone and done it and the cup is going to Scotland for the first time.

WELL DONE LIP GLOSS! DR K CUP WINNER 2019.

They are dancing in the streets of Aberdeen tonight.

First Steady Edina, then Snayak and now Lip Gloss are the winner of this esteemed trophy.

I need to have a lie down, this is all a bit much for me.

Well done everyone and thanks for taking part.

With lots of love from Lincoln

Until next year.

Good bye

About This Thread

2024 Instructions

Add the following race to your portfolio:

fetcheveryone.com/races/the-doctor-k-cup-10329609

Enter your predicted time by October 18th (the day before the run).

On the 19th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!

RESULTS WILL BE POSTED HERE:

fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php

Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!

The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.

NB Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - so you can do your run at parkrun, but ***PLEASE*** make sure you cover at least 5000 metres. A GPS watch reporting 5.00km will do so from 4995 metres onwards, but you MUST run at least 5000 metres or more. To avoid disappointment add an extra 10 seconds on to the end of your run, just to make sure.
