I haven’t pledged allegiance since I made my promise in Brownies in the 1960s. Do Guides/Scouts still do that?

I’ll be playing a bowls match whilst the Coronation is taking place, but will undoubtedly see plenty of it on the TV later. I shall be hosting afternoon tea for our German visitors in the afternoon and I have bunting… but I’d probably do this regardless of the Coronation as something typically English to entertain our foreign friends.

Strangely many of our north American aquaintences don't seem to be that interested. The Harry n Megs soap opera seems to have cured them of their sleeping beauty fairytale vision of the monarchy. The opinion I'm getting is that they think Charlie is a bit of a shit who treated his beautiful wife badly and married one of the ugly sisters....

Cam's rehabilitation has been something of a PR triumph for the Palace given she was kicked all around town after Lady Di died. How soon we forget.

Really finding it difficult to engender any enthusiasm at all about the Coronation. Probably won't watch it, and sure as shite won't be swearing allegiance.

Despite having served in the army, and having the job of preserving the Queen's peace for a goodly number of years, since her passing I can pretty much take or leave the monarchy. And mostly leave it, if truth be told.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Planning a long lie in, a walk and maybe some Netflix. And staying as far away from the royalists as I can.

In principle all that is required to avoid it is not watch the main TV channels I had assumed and as I rarely do these days I don't anticipate being exposed to this whole bread and circuses thing.

Took a walk through the village there and seen one house with bunting, one more than I expected tbf.

About This Thread

So will you be waving your little union jack and pledging your allegiance and scoffing coronation chicken or quiche at a street party?

Or ignoring the whole bloated exhibition of flummery and forelock tugging to inherited privilege and finding more important things to do?

I'm in the latter camp :-)
