I do feel for my yr11s and 13s - still having to turn up to lessons and carry on doing revision activities and past papers. Of course - they may want to resit if they don't like the grade I've given them, but I've been fair and based it on all the available data I have - the process really made me aware of the progress they have all made. I also found that I was much harsher in my judgements on the ones at the lower end than at the top - when I compared my data to the published grade boundaries the students at the lower end had higher grades than I would have predicted on gut feeling.

(Plus - gutted that I missed what ever the blocked post was!)

Grast girl - DHT = deputy head teacher

Off work today with a migraine! Must be the stress of playing the game of which children where with which staff when and how...

That's why I try to always have a rubric now Mrsbridgewater, I'm a harsh marker otherwise.

I miss my students, especially the final years. I'm just going through their final year projects and they've come on so much in that time. I would have been graduating my first set of tutees this year (a bumper crop because of placement years), but it wasn't to be. We'll definitely be setting up something online for them though, because I doubt many will be able to come to the 2021 graduation.

Ouch Cyclops. I'm thankful I seem to have my migraines mostly under control, but I'm surprised I haven't had one with everything going on.

Message from the Head. He has emailed parents of children in N, R, Y1 and Y6 to say that teachers will continue to prepare home learning packs which will be taught in school by the staff working with their child or accessible to parents at home to use. Lots of parents deciding to keep children at home.

I always mark to a rubric - it was more my perception/gut feeling of where they would be that was off. Luckily in the wrong direction.

We have just been told that we have to set end of year exams to be done at home. Not sure what the value of any marks from those exams will be as we will have no control over the conditions in which they are done!

Oh dear. I have just responded to yet another attack on lazy teachers on Twitter.

Do people really think we want to be at home? That this is somehow easier than being in school?

I'm the Head teacher of an average-sized primary school in a rural area. After 12 years here, I'm 9 weeks and a day away from early retirement ......unless we are open to key worker's children over the summer holiday, in which case, add 6 more weeks onto that!

I've been with my leadership team for 7.5 hours today to put together a plan to open for Reception, Y1 and Y6. It's a minefield. The staff are (understandably) wanting social distancing to be in operation and we have about 60% of each year group wanting to return. We have a limited number of classrooms, we can only fit in 9 pupils max with 2m between them and we are going to prioritise children of key workers, as we have been doing up to now; the number of those is increasing by at least 25%, possibly by 50%, on 1st June.
There is no way we can offer full time schooling for the number of children who are wanting to come back.

Welcome GM.

I think everyone understands that there's not really enough space. Hopefully some will be able to go back to their employers and say not yet. That or you'll have to get some big marquees set up on the remains of the school fields.

Do not engage Mrsbridgewater it will only send your blood pressure through the roof. I found it interesting that students were calling for a reduction/refund in fees when we've never worked so hard and put in so much infrastructure at light speed. I really sympathise, but it's clear from my own meagre loans that they're not likely to ever pay it off anyway, so any small reduction will only adversely affect the university without having any real benefit to them.

Yes, G_g! Made my blood boil also. Universities have the same costs or even higher costs. Where is the cash to come from?

Am I okay to join here? I'm not actually a teacher, but do work in a large primary. I'm also a governor of a local all-through academy.

There are enough educators on here that I thought it might be nice to have somewhere supportive to rant and problem solve.

Everyone is welcome.
