Hmmmm am I on the right thread?
I agree with Postie and Markj, marathon training seems to give you the miles to keep a constant pace all around the race.
85:31 from 2009, three weeks after my worst marathon ever but with decent training. Havent raced a half with some good interval and repetition training in ages so that is my goal, the training. The time that will come from it should go close to that of 2009 and hopefully below. Hoping to get a 10 mile tester before the end of the year to see where I am.
Just waiting for Keyser Soze to appear now. I reckon next new poster will be Happy (G or T)!

Nope....it's me :).
This is one of my aims for Autumn 2012. PB 85:13 back in 2009 and been marathon training/running since then.
Hoping to get a bit closer in Spring and full assult in the Autumn :).

There seems to be a few really knocking at the door, and it does seem that most of us do not target halfs, rather target the marathon..... with specifiv training in reality should bring fruitfulness to our goals..... will be interesting to see how everyone progresses over the coming months and year......
1st I need to sort out my battered body.......

Lets be honest, this is really an annex of the sub 3:15 marathon thread! A sub 85 half is a natural extention of it given our competitive natures.
I think all of us have battered bodies chasing fast marathon times RFJ. I myself am going to take it easy until Christmas given work pressures and being completely knackered after Luton two days ago. A month of minimal mileage will do my body and mental state a world of good ready for next year's challenges.

P.E...
Sounds like a plan Postie what with you having just run a marathon (as has most of the thread!) recently.
No marathons for me unless I hit 1.23 HM in which case I would revise my goals so will focus on HM work post christmas. Just base work and the odd fartlek until then for me

Count me in as well. My half time is 1:31 but that is looking sort now after my 10k on Sunday. I have an entry in the Brass Monkey at the end of Jan so this is going to be my target race for this. It might be coming round a bit early though.
I session I was thinking of is a 10 mile run ending up at a park run for another 3 faster miles.

minutehunter, Sorry to have let you down though I had been lurking from the start
Sub 85 is a definate plan on way to marathon attempt in spring, just trying to find the right race as it seems my planned prep half has moved from Mid March to Mid April next year
Through time I would like to think 1:20 is not unreasonable target, but lets bash 85 first

I am dissapointed HappyT, I saw the Lurker number at 5 when posting so thought it was a good call you or your cousin would chip in!
Light hearted question here. I know I am guilty of doing it as well but are we "really" allowed to say sub 85 minutes? There is a rumour that the cut off point of referring to HM pb's in minutes was 7x:xx i.e sub80. Is this rumour valid in Fetchland?
I dont want mr Runa & mr BS to say that we have not earned this accolade!

Bah humbug, MH! I'm firmly in the camp where sub-90 is a milestone, which means sub-85 must also be!
