Ruth, going off McMillan (how I love that site) a 20:13 5k should mean you're capable of a 42 minute 10k. mcmillanrunning.com My 5k is 20:11, so in *theory* this should be do-able. However, I think if I were to make 10k my target I'd probably change my training up a bit. Right now, I'd be happy with something under 43 for 10k. |

If it hadn't been for the loose horses at the Ely Runners 10k two years ago I would have been very close to getting it!

Conventional wisdom suggets that you should add 20 seconds per mile each time you double the distance so for a 645mm pace 10 k that would equate to around... 5k - 19.56 (625mm pace) Half - Around 1.33 (705-710mm pace, Bit over double the distance) Marathon - 3.27 (730mm pace) |

TT - I'd suggest that that is a bit slack and would indicate lack of aerobic conditioning. My view, FWIW, is that it should be 10 seconds. Therefore 5k @ 6:35, 10k @ 6:45, HM @ 6:55, M @ 7:05 However I'm absolutely nowhere near that relationship and fit closer to your model with the exception of marathon, when I'm nearly a minute adrift!!! |

Your view is worth as much mine at least FR, I am closer to the 20 seconds myself too. Think that would probably be the same for a lot of us with the exception of the top performers..? My current pb paces are: 5k - 21.45 - 7mm pace (last 5 k I ran, it was 2 years ago) 10k - 44.57 - 7.14mm pace (full of cold) Half mara - 1.35.55 - 7.15mm pace Mara - 3.29.04 - 7.59 pace Have improved all times since last ran the 5k. 10k best last June was, as it says, done with a heavy cold which is why it is basically same pace as my half mara PB which is from MArch this year and felt comfortable, in fact I was getting stronger as the race progressed, my last mile split was the quickest by far. Got the mara PB in April aiming for 3.15 but definitely a lack of speed endurance (or so Gobi informs me) saw me falling short. So a sub 42 is still going to be tough but a good target and on a good day with the right training doable. |

I'm closer to you Terminator 5k - 20:41 = 6:40mm 10k - 43:48 = 7:03 mm 1/2 - 1:35:02 = 7:15mm mara - 3:28:40 = 7:57 mm My 5k time suggests I can get my 10k time somewhat and also my 1/2. I'm not bothered about the marathon time. I've never targeted shorter distance training so hopefully that will do something. I think I'll need to bet on you at Llanelli T |

Don't be despondent FR, no one is judging you (except yourself maybe), room for improvement is all?

FR, can't remember if you've decided to specifically target any one distance? I thought you were laying off the marathons to give the shorter stuff a good hammering?
