2:50:14 here in what didn’t quite feel like a well paced effort Solid until 18, when the gradual decline in pace kicked in. Was a bit surprised as I felt nothing had changed but my pace suddenly started dropping.
This accelerated over the final few miles until the bridge about 25 miles pretty much stopped me in my tracks. It wasn’t a dramatic climb, but just tipped me over and led to a tough final stretch.
~35s pb.
Very flat course, lots of lapping of 1/2 and full runners and some crazy satellite signal moments!

It wants to be soon rhb. A week off is a long time for me but my RHR has been increasing since London. I don't think I ever fully shifted my lingering lurgy and running the marathon let it take a bit of a hold again. I felt better this morning but my RHR was the highest I've seen for a long time so I decided it wasn't worth the risk of making myself proper poorly. It's not as though I have any races planned. Not sure I'd have been up to any effort two weeks after a marathon even when fit and well but I'd usually be back doing the mileage. That was a bit of a leap though!

Impressively metronomic pacing until the drift kicked in Miser. Congrats on the PB!

Well done Miser. It's a rare day indeed that you hit your A goal with an absolutely perfect run, and a PB is never to be sniffed at.

Thanks folks. The 2:45 was off the table before starting, the 7 week ‘taper’ had definitely sunk it.
Absolutely right though - can’t ever argue with a pb!

Another PB here, well race PB anyway, went quicker over the GPS London marathon in lockdown.
2:52:33 which was better than the 2:55 I thought I'd hoped to be capable of.
Weather was pretty horrid, really exposed course meant it felt like you were forever running into a headwind or cross wind varient, there were also a good 15 shin deep water stretches en route which were a challenge.
Found a good pack to about 10 miles, went with 2 others on a mini splinter group, 2 became 1 soon after, stuck with the same guy until 18ish then he dropped back a bit (said he needed a portapotty). Thought he was gone so carried on solo picking my way through people dropping back from faster starts until the legs/head stopped playing ball toward the end as the headwind broke me. Got caught by 3 or 4 between 23-25 miles and only checked my elapsed time at the 25 mile point for the first time.
Decided I could PB so picked up the pace a bit to the end. Will blog properly when I get chance!
