Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Just wondered if people had any recommendations? As a diabetic the fast acting gels aren't great as they shoot my blood sugars up. I did a 10 miler this morning on no food. Felt great but still took a hi5 aqua gel at 5 miles. Still felt OK but at the end did send my BG into double figures.

Do you need gels for 10 milers? Is it just a placebo or would your BG drop too low without them?

I think it would be OK SPR and wish I'd tried that today. I can feel when I'm starting to go 'low' but not always wise to wait for that.

I just have a jelly baby or two if I feel as if I am going low.

How many grams of carbs in your gel.

4-5 jelly babies are 15 grams enough to treat a proper very low hypo, I am talking below 3 which I very unwise to happen whilst out running so taking 5 or 6 grams of carbs is usually enough to stop going low until you can get home for proper food.

23g of carbs in the gel UC so explains the BG jump. Do you wait till you feel a low is coming before taking? Wish I'd done that today as was feeling great at 5 miles but was worried in case a low came.

I have the libre so if arrows are straight down I will have a sweet or two and check again in 10 mins, I find it takes 15 mins from taking the carbs for them to make a difference. If I take too many sweets then I go too high when I finish. It’s a fine balancing act and sometimes I get it wrong.

Don't know much about keeping blood sugars right for diabetes but I use active root, it is a powder that you mix with water, I was given it at a marathon and had been feeling very sick it has ginger in it which is great for settling the stomach. I use that mostly for long runs with some real food as needed.
