Heehee Rosab123 Ive entered another 10k maybe not an accidental enter just a crazy one, as i forget how quick & hard work 10k's can be as you are only just into the zone and its over There is a few of us doing the same races so it should be a good laugh and hopefully a PB in at least one of them. Time to get some good tunes on the ipod for the races, its a must to have good bouncy tunes so it encourages you along and gives you something else to think about if the going gets tough |

Hi all, well done BT2 and rosab123, for your enterings!! I have a few "it seemed like a good idea at the time" entries to events, I really don't know why I enter things like 30 mile ultras!!! eek, it's like the elephant in the distance, it doesn't look as big till it gets right up to you! It terrifies me but there's something that says, "run slow and you'll be ok" so will just go with my gut instinct. Or chicken out at the last minute!! I agree rosab123, 10k's are a tad too fast, and like you, it takes me ages to warm up properly, and get into my stride, so it's over before you know it. Music is ESSENTIAL to me for anything over a mile or something, I can't breathe properly without my music, for some reason!! Hate it when they ban mp3 players at events, they say it's for your own safety, but "hello - I can hear you perferctly well, I can hear traffic coming up behind me, I can hear when marshalls call out directions - I'm an adult, don't treat me like a kid!!!" sorry, ranting!!

out of curiosity is there a point where we are no longer considered slow and do we get kicked out? not that i'm anywhere being fast just a hypothetical question?

S&S i would like to do an ultra but need to do more miles walking or and running. The other half & i are thinking about doing the west highland way, we live live in scotland so thats a boost not that it matters where you live to do it. I also want to do the moonlight walk which is in edinburgh so hopefully get a few of the girls to see if they want to do it, and i'll get pics up on here.

Whiskey, slow running is relative, we'll always be slow, compared to others, like elite runners! so the door is always open to everyone, (except those Kenyans who are faster than greyhounds!) - although - I guess they are slow compared to greyhounds so technically they would be able to join us SAPs! we don't do kicking out, not in this game!!! BT2, great, get the miles in, how far is the West Highland Way? I'm doing (or going to attempt to do) the Worcestershire Way in May, with my sister, that's 31 miles, it's advertised as Worcestershire Way in a Day, so we'll probably have to sprinkle a bit of running in as well. Bit anxious as it's described as "very strenuous", and starts at Bewdley (hills) and ends in Malvern (hills) eek! My sister lives at the foot of a hill and walks up it each day - so she's used to them, but I like the flat canal walks, so will have to run just to keep up with her! Look forward to seeing some pics of that Moonlight Walk, I've heard it's quite an occasion! |

and there was me fretting about my 10km races and then I hear talk of lovely 'Ways' and 'Hills' (gulp) I think I left my mountain legs behind in Wales when I left there as a kid - used to spend most of my time running up & down them as a Valley Girl I did the Moonwalk in London the other year - or should I say the Halfmoon (not sure I fancy the full distance in the night - I like my duvet too much, although I didn't get into bed until 6ish as I still had to get home from the event) S&S - I love your description of the dreadmill - I am quite looking forward to my next session looking at windmills whilst counting tulips although that fresh baked bread smell is going to make me very hungry. Have a great weekend everyone - I am off for a plod later to see if I can blow up the BP/heart monitor (got a 24 hour test today) so will send my email with my SAP pace |

ha ha WW don't worry, its just walking the hills and ways, it's somehow always possible to walk, even up the hills, unlike running, so a hilly 10k fills me with more dread than a flat 30 mile walk! Hope the reading comes out ok, my sis had a routine blood pressure test and it was very high, so she had to be wired up for the day, a couple of months ago. Her bp was still high but they seemed to think it was ok (?) (why do it then?) strange doctors. BT2, that WHW sounds like a big challenge! you might have to do that over a few days, especially with the hills (mountains more like, probably!) Was just looking at the Cotswold Way, that goes along the ridges of hills, they must have been masochists, these people who invented these ways! Looking forward to getting all the SAP times in, got an idea of what to base the story on this week (but I'm not telling!) hee hee! |

Yay, found you SAP's Just caught up on the thread, amusingly some of the 'slow' times look pretty darn fast to me! Yesterday I had to cross a road because I just couldn't get up the speed to over take a gentleman who was just walking... and he must have been 20 years older than me! Show offs! So what do we do with our times? I didn't pay enough attention... This weeks slowest was 14.36 .... on the perfectly flat.... I despair, honestly! |

lol S&S, what do you mean, "its just walking ... " - they are big mountains to me and my little legs don't like inclines I am going to have to delay my run until tomorrow - the heart monitor is actually a bp monitor, it even comes with its on fitted cuff and makes me stop what I am doing every 15 mins ( http://www.fetcheveryone.com/blog_other.php?uid=35691 ). It is bad enough hyperventilating on my runs, I am not going to stand around for a minute whilst I beep and my arm puffs up and makes strange noises lol |
