18 months is plenty of time for a new coach to make a difference

Could come to that, not e who would it be, that's the question.

Think we have to wait till after the WC, then what? A Farrell/Edwards combo?

League fans will never stop taking the piss.

Agreed. EJ has jumped the shark, we’re simply not a well coached side. The great irony is we’re France from a few years back: no consistency of selection, bonkers decisions, poor discipline, no idea what team will turn up or what the gameplan is.

Well played France, deserved it.

Tough to be up there, favourites, expectation soaring, everyone looking at ways to beat you 18 months out from a WC. Let’s see how they deal with it.

I think that everyone ended up exactly where they deserved to be in the final table. France & Ireland are a different class. Speed, decision making, incisiveness. Everyone else is 2nd rate by comparison. 20 mins of pressure when the game is pretty much gone doesn’t represent a good performance for either England or Scotland today. Wales poor in 2 games, full of heart but ineffective in the other 3. Italy poor but improving against weaker teams.

It was a great six nations, overall, I would say. Some great drama, skills, heart. Bad for Scotland, a few flashes of great stuff, but some terrible performances too. And as for the player / coach off field indiscipline, I just despair. Well done France, Ireland and... Italy! :-) G

I think only France comes out of that 6N happy.

Ireland - a lot has been made of their forward pack and its not as world beating as they thought. Made heavy weather of a few games that they should have won easily. Uncovered some genuine class in their squad though.

Wales - Lost to Italy, a disaster. Directionless, poorly coached and surprisingly passionless. Plenty of injury issues but bringing back an unfit AWJ was a genuine WTF moment

Scotland - Got slightly lucky against a poor England, challenged Ireland well but lost to an abject Welsh team. Whilst they play a nice brand of rugby (compared to a few years back) the style is going to cost them as many games as it wins them. Their pool of players is so small in a big football country that barring the occasional perfect storm I don't see them ever being a genuine challenger unless they can change that.

England - Odd selections, pre-planned substitutions, indiscipline and zero attacking gumption defined the tournament again. There is a lot to be said for getting your best players on the pitch and in some cases it can work out. Malins and Daly are not the best players though. England have a solid defence and defensive plans but without the pacey wingers to make bad kicking competitive or a Tuilagi bosh their attack just doesn't spark. I think it actually only needs one or two tweaks to make the team fire but they need to forget Tuilagi and build a team around a different gameplan

TRO's assessment is sobering.

The whole building a new team thing? Really, cos it's not like he doesn't have access to every bit of information on every eligible player. Frankly it's to late in the day to be dicking around with selections. Should have assembled a squad by now that can destroy all in their path and keep them together till after the WC, just like France seem to have done.

Scotland, I feel for Townsend, looks like he needs the offspring of more of his old team mates to come through.

Townsend has lost the dressing room I’d say. Certainly senior plays don’t respect him. Hogg is error prone and selfish - see the two chances he butchered against France and Ireland

About This Thread

Maintained by Dai Bank
OK been on walkabout but off we go on 5th Feb with Ireland v Wales.
Hopefully we will all be playing at the correct grounds and with more than a few spectators to cheer, sing, not make too much of an arse of themselves through too much of what makes them lose themselves.

Thread title has been changed so thanks for that whoever updated it.
