Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Didn't hear any after match stuff. I thought Barnes had a great game. O'Mahoney send off is just the law now isn't it? What else?

You can't moan about that red. Ref had zero choice, and O'Mahoney knew it.

I still think Barnes is one of the best refs going. I'll save my moaning for a certain french ref when he appears ;-)

Barnes has his moments, but like Flanker I far prefer him to the French refs.

In real time I thought I heard him say he was happy with the clear out but when he viewed the replay he had no choice.

Hopefully players will realise they can’t get away with that kind of reckless play. It really doesn’t add to the spectacle.

Nothing wrong with aggressive clear out. But if all you can see is a head you can't stamp on it, rake it, kick it or target it with your shoulder!

Barnes did say at time it was fine but in real time he would have assumed he hit chest and just rocked the player back. Glad we have TMO for that sort of thing.

Fun weekend! :-) G

French refs, like the stereotype of French rugby team, no one knows what will happen on the day. A lot of Gallic shrugging and much less speaking than the other NH refs

Wayne Barnes is to rugby what Mark Clattenburg was to football. Both excellent referees who don't mind a bit of controversy.

I like the way he and Nigel Owens "coach" the players. It's hard to say you didn't think you were offside when the ref is saying "Thomas, step back 1 metre". Pretty clear! :-) G

It may be a symptom of bias, but I found it much less intrusive when Nige did it.

Barnes is getting better, but I recall not so long ago he'd re-set a scrum seemingly 20 times with in the manner of a school games master determined to stay there until they got it right, even if they missed lunch. It's your own time you're wasting, lads.

He used to annoy me on that in his early days - but I do think he's really developed into a top class ref now

About This Thread

Maintained by Dai Bank
OK been on walkabout but off we go on 5th Feb with Ireland v Wales.
Hopefully we will all be playing at the correct grounds and with more than a few spectators to cheer, sing, not make too much of an arse of themselves through too much of what makes them lose themselves.

Thread title has been changed so thanks for that whoever updated it.
