Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Shades-Sounds like your legs might not be liking you at the minute.
Yeah it was the right choice as I had to stop for the toilet after 2 laps.
I do enjoy the park,OH never understands how I can enjoy it doing so many laps of the same place, but it feels nice switching off,not worrying about cars or crossing roads and having access to toilet, filling drinks etc.

Ian - I understand that. It's tiring and can be annoying having to be on the alert for traffic and road crossings etc. It will do you well in your ultras as at times you need to switch of mentally and just run and deal with the distance.

Shades Oh dear tomorrow is going to be tough!

I can understand the laps, when I first started doing laps of Rec and park I hated them usually managed 4 max before bored. But since Tuesday is Tempo Tuesday and the laps are flat it suits me.The laps are 300m long and i will do 4-5 miles no idea how many times I go around but I love it.It really is get the head sorted we are doing what ever distance.

WP - yes, you're right. You have to switch the brain into lap mode and then it's not so bad.

Do you do Hadd tests? I know you mentioned that you had followed Hadd.

I might do a Hadd test over Xmas period, no access to a track so just use a flat loop of a housing estate, 4 laps at each HR but I'll only do the 3 lower HRs.

My legs have eased now but my glutes are now complaining 😒

My laps are about 2.3m with 90ft of climb so nice steady ups and downs.I can see me doing a lot of my very long runs in there the next few months.
Laps have never bothered me,I just switch off and run,3 laps to seemed so much easier in my head than 7m left.

I do but not done a Hadd test in a long time and funny enough planned to do one over Christmas and New year.Either laps of the park or go to Aberafan which is also flat but busy with people. So my best bet will be park I think.

Ian - that's a comfortable climb for a lap of that distance.

WP - there's not much flat around here. The industrial estate is flat but so dull. I prefer a small lap around a housing estate, all bungalows and very quiet. Long time since I've done one too.

Do you do the test for all heart rates? I'll only do 3 lowest. I have done 4th in the past. I tried the 5th a couple of times but could only manage half the distance. 😰

Similar to you I have done 4 as can not manage the 5th one either.

I wonder if my race on saturday will give an indicator must check HR for each mile.

No sausage rolls powering me yesterday. Did have GBK twin patty burger on saturday for lunch though. For the record thats the small version you can also have 3 or 4 patty ones. I did have a egg on top mind.

Shades - Er slowly pondering what i want to do when next year. Did email foxy to check some stuff yesterday.

Keith sounds like it was the egg as extra fuel source 😀

Having a rest day today my legs were very tired in bed and the thought of running in dark as I fit it in before PT was not appealing. I had pencilled in Tuesday as short run or rest day.I rather rest on PT day than use another day.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon. Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
