Just watching TV. The usual let's get kids taking exercise. THIS DOESN'T WORK. IT NEVER HAS. Adults, get adults doing it, if they do, kids do.

Kennedy first did it in 1961 in the good old USofA. That went well.

Yes. The interesting bit, if you ask me is to have people who are not 'sports stars' as role models in exercise. I really do not like the term role model.

If you show Mo Farah, or McColgan or Kevin Sinfield legging it, your average couch potato will say yeah great, but in their head is I can't do that ( and they can't), and therefore don't. If you show ordinary people doing very simple ordinary things like walking for half an hour day, and show the benefits something as simple as that gives ( and there are many), they just might do it.....

I think that's definitely true, but at the same time, I do know several middle-aged men who were motivated to take up running a year back by the whole Kevin Sinfield/ Rob Burrow thing, specifically to be able to do the marathon for MND in Leeds last weekend. It'll be interesting to see how many of them stick with it now.

I have a cousin who's completed C25K twice and both times decided that exercise and being fit are all well and good but not for her.

I tend to think the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and in the USA and UK we are in a terrible state as far as health and fitness is concerned. Here on fetch and any of the Half a dozen clubs I have Coached at just don't see because these places are inward looking bubbles of exercise. The vast majority of people do absolutely nothing and are very hard to get too...and very hard to make any changes too, see Glenners recent blogs about changes to diet.

And as I have also pointed out, out of a cohort of 36 only 7 are currently recording any steps at all. Obviously some people don't have the devices, but the number was a lot higher at the start of the programme.

Hummus recipe:

Proper hummus is served with a drizzle of olive oil, rather than oil being a significant ingredient in its own right. This is what should go in it:

• 1½ cups cooked chickpeas or 1 (15-ounce) canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed*
• 3 tablespoons tahini
• 3 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1 garlic clove, mashed
• ¼ teaspoon salt, or more to taste
• Approximately 2-4 tablespoons room-temperature water or aquafaba, or more if needed
• Optional garnishes: extra virgin olive oil, sumac or paprika, finely chopped parsley or other herbs, whole chickpeas

This particular recipe from thymeandtoast.com but it’s typical of the Middle Eastern way of making it.
