[There’s an interview with Brooke Shields in today’s Times. I think I posted the interview she did with Hodinkee about three weeks back. Very strange prioritisation by her or her agent. I’m delighted, but it’s still a bit odd]

Nothing humorous about this, but a scary story:

Mm. I’m going to take a large pinch of salt with that one. Will do some research.

Do they pay the artists a decent royalty is the main question?

The answer to that question will be a definite "no", but that is not the main question anyway. The main question is "if you care about artists' royalties why do you use streaming services rather than skanking streaming sites". If you can get all the music you want for £9.99 a month the artist is bound to get f*ck all.

True - I use bandcamp, I don't stream, apart from in cases where I'm checking someone out I've not heard of.

I think it's fine to use those services on a 'try before you buy' basis, but if you want an album permanently you should pay for it.

Agreed that bandcamp, and similar, are the best option when available. I bought Emma Swift's excellent Blonde on the Tracks album via that route:

Hummus recipe:

Proper hummus is served with a drizzle of olive oil, rather than oil being a significant ingredient in its own right. This is what should go in it:

• 1½ cups cooked chickpeas or 1 (15-ounce) canned chickpeas, drained and rinsed*
• 3 tablespoons tahini
• 3 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1 garlic clove, mashed
• ¼ teaspoon salt, or more to taste
• Approximately 2-4 tablespoons room-temperature water or aquafaba, or more if needed
• Optional garnishes: extra virgin olive oil, sumac or paprika, finely chopped parsley or other herbs, whole chickpeas

This particular recipe from thymeandtoast.com but it’s typical of the Middle Eastern way of making it.
