I noticed that as well Ian - thought that there's a name you used to see regularly winning races but not seen for a few years. Has she been injured do you know ?

She has been running a few parkruns (!) and set a new women's course record at Crichton on Saturday past. parkrun.org.uk

She also has a blog and, having had a look, had a stress fracture and was also suffering from RED-S (relative energy deficiency in sport)* back in 2018 and had a pretty tough tough time, even wondering if she'd ever get back to running and having to have a spell off all exercise (see blogs of October 18). joasiazakrzewski.blogspot.com

I met Joasia after Ruchill parkrun when we sat round the table and chatted in the golf club. Really nice. She had just broke the Ruchill course record and was about to head off to race in China. She had her bike with her to cycle around.

* I had never heard of RED-S before. I think is something we might be hearing a lot more of.

Interesting. I hadn't clocked that Jo was out, but I'm glad she's back.

I am pretty sure she finished just ahead of me at Edinburgh parkrun at some point last year.

She was at Vogrie 10K last Sunday, presumably as a wee sharpener for Falkirk :-)

57.5 Degrees of Pain
One of my best parkruns was a male first finish at Strathclyde in weather like today's. I just about kept within 30s of Jo with her (female) teammate hot on my heels.

Red-s is the modern name for what used to be known as the female triad. Reflecting the fact that men can suffer a similar enough disruption to their normal physiology by overtraining with or without an eating disorder.
