With inflation and costs of everything going up. What tips can you share to reduce your household costs? Do create hashtags to catergorise the tips #EnergyTip Use a pressure cooker for dishes like soups and stews. Get the pressure cooker to pressure, then put it in a hot box (a big box that is insulated with an old blanket or pillows) to let it continue cooking. Also great way to cook lentils, beans, chickpeas. Really reduces energy used to cook. |

Have you ever thought about going on a Water Meter? As there's only Mr RF and myself, I took the plunge and put us on a water meter. My water used to cost over £400 a year. Now it costs less than £150 a year.

We're registered on a food waste site: toogoodtogo.co.uk Shops that have surplus stock close to its best before date want to sell the stock (and avoid food waste). It's usually at discounted prices. You commit to buying it and collecting it within a certain time span. It can be a bit random as to what comes through, but you can choose to be alerted from certain shops over others. |

I also turn the oven off at least 5mins before it's "cooked" as the temperature is not going to drop dramatically in that time I also use a slow cooker |

Where practical, leave the door of a fan oven open after use as it reduces the time that the fan runs to cool the heating element down. It has a bi-product of warming the room a bit too, but that might not be welcome in an already hot kitchen).
