Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Grow your own food.
You don't need a large garden for it. You can grow most things in pots and bags on a balcony. It saves money, is healthier and better for the planet :)

Also: combine car journeys. I very rarely go somewhere in the car without also combining other things like food shopping, dentist, petrol, meeting friends... And again added bonus: better for the environment as you do fewer miles.

Celery & spring onions can be placed in a cup of water to help keep them fresh and they will grow more produce.

I picked up a fruit and veg box at Lidl's today, good to see the price is still £1.50. Great value, bananas, grapes, melon, peppers, new potatoes and about 40 Clementines.

Just been to the dentist and can't eat any of them right now. 😞

I'm just back from Lidl with a £1.50 box. Quite a few goodies, a lot of onions and some broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, an avocado, some plums, carrots, half a cucumber and some satsumas. And some exercise thrown in carrying it home.

We’ve recently been using our slow cooker to cook chicken, and yesterday cooked a loaf of bread in it.

I've done bread in the slow cooker before but I am not sure if it's cheaper to buy ingredients and make yourself as buy?

#EnergyTip Use a pressure cooker for dishes like soups and stews. Get the pressure cooker to pressure, then put it in a hot box (a big box that is insulated with an old blanket or pillows) to let it continue cooking. Also great way to cook lentils, beans, chickpeas. Really reduces energy used to cook.
