Yes, I agree about 5k really. The original HR test I did was a DIY effort from a manual and seemed pretty scientific but now I go for a big pace effort in the middle of a 5k run and could absolutely go no faster...eyeballs out stuff. Good enough for my standard of running I think, so yes I agree with everyone overall.
I do sometimes get concerned about over exerting my heart...and pushing 73 hasn't helped at all! That's another reason for my run/walk routine lately. ( But there's another thread for Heart Rate running which gets a bit technical for me!) ...so .back to run/walk thoughts next time for me! Sorry to have thrown the HR thing in .

Did my Mad March Virtual 4K today as a run/walk, 90/45s, giving the run parts a solid effort. Result: 27:10. 2:47 under prediction. Pretty pleased with that. Also with an average hr of 153 ie 71% whr.

Nothing that a bit of practice at running fast won't sort out ;)

What a great effort Dvorak.
I'm hoping that my recent regime of doing intervals and tempo runs improves my pace in relation to HR. Yeah, I'm practicing! But I do enjoy run walk more!!

Pam runs
Yesterday I did 6 mile run no walking.

Pace 9.41min mile.

Power 169watts (stryd)

Heart Rate 158bpm.

Today same 6 mile but half mile run/1min walk.

Pace 9.45min mile.

Power 167watts (stryd)
Heart Rate 159bpm.

Not sure what my conclusion is. 🤔🤔

Good pace whatever Pam runs. Interesting HR (I'm guessing that was the average). Impressive that your pace with walking was 9.45 and just 4 secs a mile slower than when you were running but that would spoil a pb attempt in a 10k race. So you ran a total of 5 or 6 minutes? If you perfected your walking form/ speed without raising your HR it might enable you to go much further. I like the experiment and I'll try it myself albeit at a slower overall pace than you! Well done and thanks for sharing here.

Steve45.

Yes that was average heart rates.

Run bits were about 4.30min long Fastest run bit pace was 8.40min mile slowest was 9.16min mile. I was surprised how slow these were. Just based on the effort I was putting in I thought they'd be quicker.

Oh look what just arrived through the letterbox: Will be my bed time reading for the next couple of weeks.

dobbers - are you enjoying this book? Would you recommend it - I've seen mixed reviews online - some saying we need some of his other books as well, others saying it repeats a lot of info from the others...

I've had the book for some time and it is rather thin.
