They offered free tickets to local parkruns too I believe. Nelly do you know if GMM entrants will be getting free entry to the expo again this year? 800m indoor track sounds strange indeed.. runlikealegend.com |

It's a bit too far away for me. Then again, I wouldn't pay that even if it was on my doorstep. I hope the Mancs boycott it for the sheer greed of the organisers.

"It says Steve Cram brings a wealth of experience to the event. I expect he's hoping to take an experience of wealth from the event" Chris HB - he also brings the £30 10k to Worcester every September - which although is right in my local town I refuse to enter due to it's high cost. A local running club have been putting 10ks on for years (no not the "dodgy 10k") at Pitchcroft at a much more reasonable cost. |

"There's no option to drop the expo because the track is within the expo hall so you need to enter the expo to get to the race." The Oxford Half ended inside the Kassam Stadium, I wasn't forced to spend £20 to watch an Oxford United game. "If you factor in the Nike tech t-shirt and goody bag" - fair point. How much are they paying me to wear the Nike T-shirt? My standard sponsorship rates are available on request. |

"The Oxford Half ended inside the Kassam Stadium, I wasn't forced to spend £20 to watch an Oxford United game." Was there an Oxford United game on at the time? No, so it's a ridiculous comparison! If you wanted to buy a burger and a pint from within the Kassam Stadium during a game do you think they'd let you in for free if you said you weren't interested in the football??? "How much are they paying me to wear the Nike T-shirt? My standard sponsorship rates are available on request. " I presume you managed to get a similar personal discount at VLM and Paris marathons last year for the branded t-shirts you got as part of your race entry to these events??? monsenb - I didn't know about local parkruns. No idea about GMM entrants. |

I like the title "Course Director" given to Steve Cram -how hard can it be ! A lot easier than measuring and marking a local 10K course and I bet he ain't doing it !! I call it non-Event city only because I've done a few antiques fairs there and the last one was such a shambles the organiser stopped using the venue. I should declare that I have won a Great run entry via the fetch Xmas calendar which is just as well coz I wouldn't pay for one again |

Nelly: Perfectly fair point about the shirt. But going into an expo is not a benefit to you, it is a benefit to the people that have stalls there and are trying to flog you tat. If you pay to let people advertise at you then you are a mug. Therefore you cannot deduct it from the cost of the race. Advertising is something you put up with, you put up with ad breaks so as not to pay extra for the TV subscription, you put up with being forced to collect your race number from an expo so as not to pay extra for the race. |

Congrats DoctorK which one will you be doing? I agree Spleen, I just don't think including entry to the expo can be a justified reason for the high price. The goody bag and the tshirt is fair enough though. |
