An absolutely fantastic performance, and justified win, by Japan. And the biggest shock in Rugby World Cup history.
However, you've got to feel sorry for them as they've now got a short turnaround for the game against Scotland on Wednesday. I wonder whether they'll be able to backup today's result? ... it still wouldn't surprise me if SA topped the group (thanks in part to their two bonus points today).

Scotland are regularly turned over by the likes of Italy, Tonga and Samoa, so Japan must fancy their chances. Shame that Scotland go into the game fresh while Japan have only four days to recover.

I wrote south Africa through as group winners on my wall chart as their group was so weak. Oops. Michalak can't kick for toffee!

Quote on the BBC Sport website on France v Italy: "Six penalty kicks is all that's on the scoreboard at half-time. We're metaphorically eating turkey curry for the third consecutive day after a glorious Christmas Day feast."

A little bit of a query. When I played many moons ago, a penalty kick for touch had to be kicked from behind the mark made by the ref. Nowadays nearly all players use that mark as the start of their run-up and steal about 5 metres, has the rule changed or is it one the refs just don't bother enforcing like a straight put-in in the scrum?

I would like to see lifting at the lineout abolished which would make them more competitive.

You are right H, mind you a try was only worth 3 points when I last had need of a rule book.
TMO playing his part again tonight...
