Maybe reduce the number of players on each team to 13 to increase space. Theres 's a game like that already - and it has virtually uncontested scrums...

And I find it unwatchable

As the parent of a prop, I'm obviously biased

I was trying to get somewhere between the two.

Excuse me bringing up the other type of football, but can you imagine if every foul awarded in your opponents half resulted in a goal most of the time?

The problem is that with a decent defense you could then commit more fouls and not be punished on the score board. Tries were increased to 5 points to encourage teams to not just kick every penalty but if the difference is too much you risk more infringements rather than fewer.

I like it the way it is. Sometimes you get high-scoring running rugby, sometimes you get games that are ground out and won by penalties. I like that there is room for both.

A free kick gives them the option of running with the ball - maybe we'd actually see more running?

And even the ball is a different size. (RL ball is pointier - easier to hold one handed, harder to place kick accurately).

I'd be that person to advance it to 6 but I'm sure there would be more.

I played union at school (to a fairly low average ability, but it was forced for at least 4 or 5 years) but watched league when the Bulls were in their prime. I was forever getting confused by which rule was in which sport.
