I can’t imagine behavior like that comes out of the blue. Her coach and teammates must have seen it before (if not actively encouraged it). There’s no place for that in any sport and there needs to be a wider investigation into how it came to that

Probably would have been if not on a sports field.

Probably would have been if not on a sports field. There’s a lot that goes on in the name of sport that would be considered criminal elsewhere.

The shrove Tuesday ball game in that place in the Midlands would be an example of something non prosecutable even though the footage was pretty violent.

Terrible story.
Unfortunately I've seen similar behaviour in the women's game. Mini Nico's team have played a couple of teams (I won't name them) in the last two seasons, who, when losing, have resorted to intimidation and dirty play. There seem to be a lot of teams that have had success by being larger and more physical than the opposition, that struggle when a better team turns up. There was an example on Sunday, in a "friendly" Development Team fixture, where the opposing team's Captain took offence at being legally handed off and went completely bat shit. Running around shouting about what she was going to do and threatening anyone who got in range. Her coach eventually took her off, but only after she'd been charging about for 5 minutes looking for a fight.

When I stopped playing seriously and dropped down to some of the lower teams, it became very evident that thuggery, often quite vicious, rather than skill or tactics often became the deciding factor in who won a game. Not helped by matches at those levels often not having a ref with the knowledge or inclination to control it. It was a big part of why I stopped playing.

Mini Nico celebrated her third trophy of the season on Sunday, when LERFC Women's XV cruised to a 71-0 win against Bridgnorth in their last home league match of the season. Only an away fixture against Cannock to go, avoid defeat and they will have completed their first two League campaigns unbeaten. Promotion to Women's Championship Midlands 2 means they will be playing in the 3rd tier of women's rugby next season.

Well done mini Nico.
I enjoyed watching Scotland Wales women's 6 nations last weekend (except Scotland lost obviously!). Great standard and open flowing rugby. G
