Funny, I think similar of a couple of my school games teachers. They're the only ones I look back on with any fondness!

Our Head of Games was Alan Welsby, international rugby referee and later assessor. Sadly died aged 69, i can still hear his voice.

We had Mike Harrison and Robin Money as teachers - both Tigers players. Money was a full back known for on occasions heading a high ball before gathering it.

5 months of no rugby, BT internet goes down after 40 mins so I watch the second half on my phone!

Fairly poor game, the much hyped Sale didn’t do a great deal. 2 horrendous shanked kicks in first half costly.

Both sides look like they've had no competitive action. Pressure told on too many occassions. Interesting if Pearce's interpretation at ruck and maul prevails going forward as the famous Tiger/ Sarrie roll at tackle time got penalised last night. I also thought they weren't going to reset scrums, clearly I got that wrong. It's a shame that not straight at the lineout still doesn't get pulled up, I keep rememebering the Nigel Owens comment to Dave Ward "I'm straighter than that". See what today brings, but really want the RFU to sort out the community game.

Ready 4 Rugby is touch rugby league, I've got front 5 boys who are not interested and without a vaccine I can't see contact until Spring 2021 at the earliest. We will lose a lot of kids, my 2 boys can't stand touch/ sevens and I think they are heading for a season out of the game.

I agree very rusty from no friendlies and the set piece and penalty count reflected this.

I caught the last quarter of Exeter - Leicester and the entirety of Bristol - Saracens. What I’ve seen so far is fairly dour. Maybe quality will improve after a few rounds.

I have enjoyed watching the YouTube highlights of Super Rugby Aotearoa. The Australian equivalent is several levels poorer. A stand out player in particular has been Peter Umaga-Jensen (related to Tana Umaga in some way), a physical 13 who could well be featuring in the Rugby Championship, now that Crotty and Sonny Bill have retired there is a vacancy at centre although Jack Goodhue is also a contender - and Rieko Ioane has looked world class too at 13.

Also of note was George Bridge’s wonder try for the Crusaders (who I think would win by 2 scores if pitted against Saracens or Leinster).

Gatland has lost 9 in a row for the Chiefs, from the look of things he is trying to play Northern Hemisphere rugby (going for penalties. Trying to keep it tight etc) however when there’s no relegation to worry about and every other team plays open, loose and attacking it hasn’t paid off. They haven’t got the best squad but he isn’t using it to it’s full effect. They have managed to lose some games at the very last minute so an element of bad luck but essentially it’s been a very poor return to NZ rugby for Gats.

Listened to Bath/Irish.

Seemed to be a bit of a better game.

Irish were poor in the first half, had a bit of a resurgence after the break. We lacked the instinct to stick a cricket score on them.

But some good performances from debutantes and Coochie in the commentary box was great.

I watched Bristol/Sarries.

Bristol were very error prone and not as forceful as Sarries in the first half although it ended 6-6. Bristol were more adventurous in the second half, but their line outs were very poor.

A penalty try gave Bristol the lead towards the end, but Sarries were rather unlucky not to go over for a win at the end.

The rugby wasn’t top rate, but the second half was entertaining.

Good to see the long break hasn't affected Tigers form. We're still crap.
