Winded, it has never occurred to me that there is something to be grateful to. Do you mean a deity or something? I feel the same as HP - it's to counter my natural tendency to be negative. And it seems to work. :)

The notion of thankfulness or being grateful implies a relationship rather than simply being something nice and pleasant.

If I go out on a nice sunny morning I may enjoy the environment or be pleased by it but I am not grateful/thankful because I do not give thanks for it. Giving thanks or being grateful is an act that reciprocates the giving of whatever it is someone is thankful for and necessary involves someone/something to be grateful to. I do mean a deity since that is the most common context. I am often pleased or pleasantly surprised or find things pleasant and as with the man at the pool am sometimes grateful but I don't feel the need to give thanks in any religious way and am not grateful to anything for the wonders of the world we live in.

Grateful is a word that carries a very strong message of a two way relationship; I am very happy to accept that some or all of the users of this thread have not meant their comments to imply a two way relationship with anyone/anything and not with a deity but nevertheless the word is really quite specific

""adjective

feeling or showing an appreciation for something done or received.
"I'm grateful to you for all your help"
synonyms: thankful, filled with gratitude, appreciative; More
antonyms: ungrateful
archaic
received or experienced with gratitude; welcome.
"the grateful shade"
""

On a more serious note; peanut butter, banana and honey sandwiches? Really? Peanut butter and banana is fine, I'm not sure about the honey - that's just going to be really sweet isn't it?

I added the honey because I ran out of peanut butter.
Not too sweet at all :-)

Yesterday I was grateful to catch up with old friends.

Today for two good classes, intervals with Fleecy, and most importantly that Dad is pretty lively.

On Saturday, for the lovely woman who let my dad enter a full race! On Sunday, that my aged father beat me in said race :) Monday I was grateful that legs were not too sore, yesterday for a really productive meeting at work, and today for the fact the rain has stopped and the sun is shining.

That despite a bike light fail this morning and bliddy sore legs from yesterdays workout I finally got out on my bike. Also that the new hairdresser did a good job and didn't mess up my fringe 😊

Fringes are so important HP! My hairdresser takes a little bit off at a time till it's right - I hate it being too short!
Today I am grateful for a quiet evening and what will be an early night
