I just read the synopsis on Wikipedia, Dipps. Sounds a very tricky read - hardly a barrel of laughs, for sure

Yes if you are going to create a character who helps create something that has a devastating impact on history and make the point it is only possibly because of the willingness of enough people to believe it and base their actions apon it, it is going to be a pretty bleak read, and indeed witty, clever writing almost makes it worse. Started drop city, a lot lighter ground, but the Eco is likely to eat away at me until I read it

Not sure whether to start this challenge for the new year. I just used goodreads to look up what was written in 1957 and I am off to a good start with On the Beach, On the Road, 4:50 from Paddington and many more. Did you all start from scratch, or count stuff you already have read?

I feel like I’m about five years in now I’ve been going forever even where I’ve found a book and read it, if I don’t like it I’m not satisfied with counting it. I started off not counting books I’d already read, but now I do if I can’t find anything better

I've counted books I've rrad before, but only one or two. I've completely run out of steam with this challenge. I think it's because I hit a problem with my remaining years (especially the 70s) and there are always plenty if books vying for attention.

Yes, I was left completely cold by The Princess Bride Dipps. I read Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont and Tinker Tailor (the latter being one I read when it first came out, so I claimed it.)
I must look out my list...

Years missing are not quite as many as I thought:
1966 1967 1969 1970 1972 1977 1979 1986 1988
I started this in 2016 and that's where I'll stop although I probably could rustle up the years to 2021 from stuff I've read in the last few years.

Well if I'm going to do this I need a random year generator and its first pick is 1989. https://www.generatormix.com/random-year. Then I need to find an audiobook from storytel.no. The remains of the day is not available so it'll be Ken Follett The Pillars of the Earth.
For 1967, LD, Ulrich Neisser's Cognitive Psychology is the start of a revolution still playing out, but I suppose textbooks are not in the spirit
