Mash on a Christmas dinner is an oddity to me. Roast dinner = roast potatoes. You don’t need two lots of potatoes (unless you are Irish and you don’t have anything else- that joke might be not quite pc, sorry)

Really? Good mashed potato is my favourite way to have potatoes.
Or dauphinuose (sp?) but that is a faff and I can't spell it, so very special occasions only.
