Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Iā€™m using road shoes off road at the moment too, I swear the ground is harder than the tarmac at the moment :)

Just to be clear, if you turn up at the Fellsman in non-fell shoes (or hiking boots) or even in fell shoes with holes or broken laces, you aint running my friend.
And yes, you are stood on one leg with your foot on the bench as they inspect your shoes.

Expect every piece of kit to be scrutinised.

3. FOOTWEAR
This must satisfy the requirements of the Equipment Check Officer. The criteria are as follows:
a) Must be in first class condition. Footwear which is misshapen or excessively worn will not be accepted;
b) Must have been manufactured for the purpose of fell walking, fell or trail running. Plimsolls, Road Running training shoes, etc. will not be accepted.

Fellsman pretty clear there. Interesting. :0) G

Rest of the mandatory kit list looks a bit shy of what most trail / fell races would include - full waterproof body cover with taped seams etc. Does it not rain in September in Kent?

Snoot - not often hypothermic rain. You might get wet, but not much worse. (in September)
There may be hilly sections, but not really in the same league as exposed fells.

Um - fair point, elevation does make a difference. I had everything from sunshine to heavy rain, high winds and 50m visibility within 10mins yesterday.
