Shin splints are back,legs are quite tender at the moment, :-(<br>Thankfully I took delivery of my new bike yesterday,so at least I can cross train for a while

Ok, so sinus thing is now a chest infection Didn't ask quack because I didn't expect to like the answer, but really, anyone any idea how long I should lay off running for? Is there the faintest chance of me being able to get round a (flattish) 10 k course in 2 weeks time?<br><br><<AC clears injured step with hacking cough and inexpertly gobbed phlegmball>><br><br>

Whenever I've had a chest infection, I don't run until the antibiotics are gone. Which is about a week-ten days.<br><br>I'm on the injured step now because of... um, a bad step, during yesterday's Stratford Marathon. I went to get up on the curb at mile 17ish and stepped straight into a hole. Rolled my ankle and knee on the left leg. The leg swelled up like... a very swollen thing. Think Boris Yeltsin at a beer festival. The nice medics said there might be a stress fracture, but as the swelling has all but vanished, I think I just yanked everything badly. Will know for sure on Wednesday when I see the fizz.<br><br><<expatria fires up DVD player and 'West Wing' reruns>>

Ohhh expatria, I am sorry to hear that.<br><br>AC, don't run until the chestinfection is cleared, running will aggravate it and slow the healing process.

I am completely fed up (and sort of injured). I've not run properly since before Christmas (seems so long ago), and had to pull out of FLM and other lesser races due to knee problems. One day I will learn that some pain just can't be run off. Latterly I have been getting back to running and now have a stange pain on the bridge of my foot when I put weight on it. It is getting better. Hopefully my physio appointment tonight (primarily to help with tight Achilles') will make some difference. It seems everything has gone wrong in the last 6 months. Hopefully it won't be too far away from a comeback though.<br><br>Hanneke - Given your circumstances I'm sure that race organisers will show some level of compassion and either refund your entry money or let you transfer your entry to someone else for the races you've entered. I tried when I was out and was amazed that both the races I had entered (Lasswade 10 and Edinburgh Forthside 1/2 marathon) let me transfer the entry. It's worth a try.<br><br>Hope everyone is back on their feet again.<br>

Is there more than one step? Not saying my injury is any less or more important than anyone elses, just different levels of seriousness. As most people rest and consult fizzios (been there, done that), my doc has referred me to a sports injury consultant at St Johns hospital. I really hope surgery is not required.<br>I have been trying to cross train, but I think it is aggravating the problem.

I'm not giving up my place on the step just yet - tried to run on Sunday but left knee said no. The joy of a PB at FLM is just a fading memory.
