Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'm training for an ultramarathon and regularly run back to back long runs. No protein shakes, and I recover just fine. A bottle of Mars Milk and a peanut butter sandwich suits me.

I have skimmed milk with nesquik milkshake powder. Either chocolate or banana. Works for me, at least enough to convince me that I'll keep drinking it. I'm not sure that bigger doses of protein would give any benefit, though.

Thanks for the responses guys. I tend to just have water and a sandwich but maybe I'll switch to milk/milkshake.

Gaubfar - Not sure, I will ask him and PM you though.

I have a beaten egg in a glass of milk if I can't eat anything immediately after. Sometimes I throw in a little vanilla and honey to make it taste a little better.

I make milkshakes like Wobbling's after a long run when it's easier to drink something than eat something. I stick a few porridge oats in too. For Goodness Shakes are bloody disgusting unless you've done something hideous like Hellrunner! But if you can eat straight after a long run then just do that instead :)

I used to use them after a long run (16+ miles) simply because I knew I needed something in my stomach, but can't tollerate "real" food for a couple of hours after I've stopped.

I now use Mars Bar milkshakes because they taste lush, and are so much nicer than the nasty SIS stuff I used to use, does the same job.

I like SIS REGO (the banana flavour works for me). It goes down a treat after a long run. I've tried Goodness Shakes, but I was somewhat disturbed by the amount of sugar it contains. I forget the actual figure, but it seemed like a hell of a lot.
