Well Vingegaard has won pretty convincingly over the last couple of years so maybe he doesn't need to be at his best and he's the GT GC king.

Pog won't turn up in devastating form - he will have the Giro in his legs. He may well win Le Tour, but even superman won't be able to ignore the demands that he made on his body just last month.

I like both of your optimism. Pogacar is better though this year than last I think, and I'm not sure that the Giro really beasted him that much. But we will see!

One site had a good article about why Pogacar might turn up in devastating form. The Giro was essentially training for him given the competition as he wasn't challenged and he decided how deep he went. It might turn out to be extremely good training possible given that. Of course it might still have been too much, but we shall find out. |

It's always quite difficult to read Pogacar, because he enjoys everything. But that was my sense too. He won the Giro with ease, everything was on his own terms.

X-post, I'm not being optimistic, I don't know the answer and I'm basically putting out different scenarios. I wouldn't be surprised if Visma's attitude is what I said though, that a top Vingegaard beats a top Pogacar everytime until proven otherwise. Even comments they've made about Vingegaard not fading like Pogacar hint at that (essentially they think if he has the level to start, he'll be good and they probably (my thoughts) think he'll grow).

Just read the CN article on the selection and Visma are being less bullish on the decision here and more about being competitive than all our for the win and stage wins part of the plan up front: cyclingnews.com

Pig broke his wrist last year and it hampered his training leading up to the Tour. He was second best by a mile last year. Bing has broken numerous bones this year and it must have had a serious impact on his training. Personally I cannot see him being fit enough to win it this year. Telco and Roglic were both good but not on their best form at the Dauphine. Pogs training and racing in the last few months has been very good. Can’t see him being beaten by anyone this year as long as he stays upright. And he didn’t seem to have to do too much to win the Giro. It was just hard training for him. |
