The bit where he lost Vinge's wheel in the Criterium also - yes before going on to win the stage, I've seen peak Roglic in the mountains when storming to victory on the Vuelta, and so far this year, it's not the same model.

Again you're saying he isn't stronger than someone that just handed Pogacar his arse like that makes him weak.
Last year people were talking like Roglic was some also ran and like Carapaz was on his level as well till he smashed everyone at the Vuelta.

If Roglic was in such terrible form, he couldn't put Pogacar under pressure. Yates and Thomas couldn't do what Roglic and Vingegaard did. It's pretty clear his base level isn't bad and it will be about where he is after injury.
Obviously someone like Evenepoel making a jump could change things and it looks like he is targeting GC but Evenepoel hasn't shown the high mountains form yet that he needs to be competitive in GTs yet and not sure he can last three weeks (not checked the route yet and whether that helps).

We didn't know exactly how strong Vingegoord was at that point... I was concerned that Roglic's domestique was having to wait up for him, but in retrospect yes it was a mark of Vingegoord's strength, but it still coloured my opinion of Roglic up to the Tour.... if I knew Vinge was gonna be that good I would have put some money on him!
So how strong is Yates gonna be at the Vuelta? I thought he looked amazing in the Giro TT, and then it all went a bit pear-shaped.

Evenepoel is a bit of a diesel in the mountains from what I read, so vulnerable to the more mercurial grimpeurs, and yes he's not shown high mountains form to win a GC or even threaten, but his weight fluctuates (between 60.5 and 66kg I read) and he's boasting he's down to the lowest he's ever been. It's hard to tell.

That's fair enough (although I think it was clear Vingegaard was strong just not that he was stronger than Pogacar). But even now you're still knocking Roglic's form based on that, despite the fact you now know that Vingegaard is currently the strongest climber in the world?
Yates is interesting as he's shown good levels of climbing (possibly at the level of the best) at points but doesn't seem able to sustain it.

Evenepoel has cracked big on high mountains in the past. Don't know whether he's a diesel but his best bet is probably to ride like one.
