MnP Im not 100% sure about what he drank befre the run. He did tell me earlier but Ive forgotten the specifics, I think thats what he said though.
As for what he drank on the run, definitely although he didnt finish the third bottle as I nicked it when I left him to carry on to the end!
Definite consensus though appears to be that its too much. Cheers for the link Johnny, I'll go check it out

I do the same as MnP but down an energy drink instead of the water before I set off and take about half a litre with me for a run over 90 minutes. He can check how much fluid he is losing by weighing himself before and after his run. Best to do that in the nuddy. The difference between his weight before and after, nett of water drunk is how much he should be taking, along with some salts. That Powerade Ion4 stuff works for me after a long run.

Nice one Rich, I didnt think about weighing the difference.... probably should have after reading Binks blogs with the before and after weights!

I think if I drank that much my running would be wrecked by needing to wee rather a lot... :-/

I did that because I was worried I wasn't drinking enough. It turned out I was drinking too much and coming back heavier than I left!

There was some interesting info on hydration on Marathon Talk a few weeks ago. The interviewee said that you shouldn't take weight loss as a true reflection of how much water you need to take in, in fact you need LESS than you've lost by weight as you get water from biological processes etc. So you need a lot less than you think. Plus of course when you sweat you lose salt too, so just replacing water dilutes the blood, which is more dangerous than dehydration, especially as the symptoms are similar. Water on it's own (in an endurance event) is no good, you need to take in food and/or electrolyte.
