Boab,

The hamstring muscle picks the foot up NOT place it down. Without video my best guess is that you are actively holding to much tension in the hips/quads during the time that you should be fireing your foot to your body with a quick impulse. The foot tapping drill shown here will help with both aspects: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8370070794441235285& , CAUTION: This drill was taken many months ago and it is not perfect excecution but it is a decent visual for the drill. I hope to make some more perfect examples in the future:) If you watch in slow motion you will notice that I am actually pulling slightly behind my body and NOT directly under. A precise pull and release of the foot is DIRECTLY under the hip. Practice and Patience:)

Aye, sounds like you're actively trying to hold the contraction, rather than a fire and forget. Like jeremy said, quick impulse. That's all the action you do at all, everything else is automatic. The fly up, deceleration, forward and down. Nothing is controlled. Can see why Dr. R gets all shirty with saying 'just pull the foot from the ground'. That simple.

Cheers J,
You still look like you are placing your foot. I thought that the hammies were used for the quick pull and then should be released to let the foot fall back to the floor, is that correct? When I was out running tonight, I tried to do that but it just felt out of control and my foot scuffed off the ground. :(

The vid is deceptive, you don't ever place the foot. Like I said, the only action you ever do is the quickfire pull, then let every single thing autopilot.

One of the motto's for POSE is that it's simple, but it's not easy. There is a difference.

Boab,

Old habits are seem to take time to break. I have found the drill format to work quite nicely. Most of us are slow learners:( (myself included)

NOT AA of course:)

If you want to get people to watch you running - you need to video yourself using your mobile phone or digital camera. Side on, full length for a few strides, is sufficient. Use a cloud storage system as discussed here
