Absolutely. And stupid policies didn't stop the US voting for Trump. The country is now being run by a basket of deplorables (Musk, Hegseth, Gabbard, Bondi jr and of course RFK jr).

Given that the main reason Trump won, it seems, was that people thought he would be better for the economy, what are the chances that he will become deeply unpopular very quickly, as the idiocy of his economics plays out and people end up much worse off? Or is right-wing control of the information now so complete that they will be able to convince people that everything is fine (or if it isn't it's the fault of Biden/transgender people/immigrants)?

That will be the kicker, for sure. Then landing the next administration in a position where the economy is crippled so badly that they can't turn it around so dramatically that they can take the credit for it. And so another idiot ends in office, probably one who then says Trump's plans were right and if only Vance had been elected President in 2028 we'd have all seen how miraculous things were and the idiots in the US will believe them.
Honestly, I do hope that Trump's reign does end up doing good. It would be hugely hypocritical of me to wish ill on the majority of the US population who didn't vote for him because of how badly I disagree with him and the people that put him there. But I can't see how it ends in anything other than crippling the US economy!

Re Trump/ Ukraine, on his first term he said he doesn't want to be involved in foreign conflicts in general which was why he decided to leave Afghanistan in his first term and there's no really reason he sees to stay involved Ukraine. I imagine the only reason he doesn't want to just pull out is it would look like giving in to Putin?

Why is the BBC conducting a beef with Reeves based on unproven allegations unconnected to government?
