On this page of the HMRC manual it talks about how agricultural property is valued for the purposes of the relief. gov.uk This essentially says that the land is valued under a very particular way, with reference to a "perpetual covenant" and subject to opinions of the "District Valuer", and (for example) says that living accomodation used by farm staff are treated as being agricultural land, and shouldn't be valued as if someone else was living in them, unconnected with the farm. What's interesting (to me) about this is that I would guess that a good chunk of this guidance will stay, and help to suppress the value of estates significantly. But if this guidance disappears, then this could result in estate values increasing significantly, because then "open market value" starts to be used to value the estate. My instinct is that farmers are using the OMV to value their estates in the publicity, and ignoring the HMRC valuation approach. I may be wrong! |

There are very specific criteria for what constitutes a farm - the amount of arable land, the number and type of animals kept etc. So all you lot who think you can just put your pet rabbit down as a farm or a couple of chickens, think again. Farmers get loads of other tax breaks though - buying and selling, the tax is much lower than buying and selling a house (stamp duty or land and buildings tax or whatever it's called etc.) G |

Got it, so it's grab a few chickens, put a few planters down and some tomato grow bags, wear a flat cap and enjoy the torture of foxes and any other small animal that dares exist?.. |

First Trump defeat. Gaetz has withdrawn as nominee for AG. Wonder if this is a ruse to get someone almost as bad installed by making the Senate happy that they've not had to appoint a complete nutjob to the role. |

Sex offender count also coming down. I must say I doubt that any of Trump's picks will be around in 4 years. Certainly not Musky and Vivek.

I doubt it was a ruse, it might have been a fealty test though.

Totally a fealty test, rumour was a second allegation of the same nature to the first came to light. On the plus side, he's already resigned so the republicans are down a man. (He almost certainly resigned to try and forestall the report ever coming out). So back to House watch. Is it still going on? Yes it's still going on. 218-213 with 4 to declare. Alaska - that's republican. Already been declared in some places. Iowa 1 - also republican. Ca-13 - The democrat is currently 330 odd votes behind with 15,000 around still to come from his "home county". But some of the other blue districts still to return have been trending red. There are less of them. A toss up. Ca-45 - Leans Dem, Derek Tran over the last two weeks has gone from several thousand down to a lead of 200. The remaining votes are in blue districts and given how heavily they've trended for him, he should win. So you're looking at +5 220-215 or +7 221-214 which is what it currently is. So let's say it's 220-215. Gaetz going makes it 219-215. That means 2 votes by Republicans mean they will lose. They're also proposing losing 2 more, so down to 217-215, which means 1 vote. So they might not be able to appoint a speaker even... |
