What you mean after tolerating since he's been leader?!

The only audience he’s interested in is the one that keeps him in place - definitely not the contributors to this thread

Sunak didn’t approve Braverman’s article apparently.

Yes but that audience approves of Braverman, or at least they both think they do.

Hmmm… World War 2.
Lots of preceding regional conflicts.

A sociopathic dictator picking off bordering nations for “living room” and a dream of empire.

Large strategic blocs committed to mutual defence dragged into war after the Rubicon is crossed.

Oops sorry that’s today.

JK *chameleon*
I know I'm in a minority but I still find it incredulous that Johnson wasn't re-elected leader last October for that very reason.

Calling it now - change of leader to Johnson*, immediately calls a GE, squeaks it over a floundering Labour party who don't know how to oppose Israel without accusations of anti-semitism, alienating a huge chunk of their base. 10 more years of glorious BoJo reign, alongside Old Man Trump. As the world burns.

*I know, I know, he's no longer an MP so can't. But you wouldn't rule out something happening, would you?

I'm definitely of the opinion he will be back, but probably not for a while. They will need a couple of election defeats or a couple of useless leaders like Braverman before they are deluded enough to give him another go, presumably hoping the electorate has short memories.

I have my popcorn ready for their scrap after they get binned next time. Should be fun, a bit like when the space marines in "Aliens" get their arses handed to them.

I do think he’s some plan up his sleeve. Doesn’t mean he’ll necessarily act on it.

His second stint as PM would go just the way the first did. Nailed on.
Most of all I think he wants a Churchill/Cincinnatus narrative now: cast into outer darkness or obscurity for years before the nation calls him to lead again in its hour of need.

If that means a time of war is required, so be it. Men of Destiny should not fear to use any situation to drive their own purpose.

Think I saw some analysis that suggested those who voted recently that swung tended to swing Tory to further right parties rather than Tory to labour and many others just stayed home.

My guess is that there is a rump of Brexit voters who think we've not regained control of our borders at all and the Tories are not hard enough on it. Step in someone who will ride roughshod over everything to make it happen at any cost - like Braverman.

As for no leadership contest before GE, I guess we'll see. If the polls keep tanking for Sunak, MPs in a seat they have an outside chance of winning where there is plenty of red meat eating voters will seriously consider ditching Sunak for Braverman.

Anyhow, all fairly pointless crystal ball gazing. The underlying broad support for increasingly right wing politics here and in the US is concerning though.

simbil, I'm not sure the support for increasingly right wing politics is actually all that broad, it just gets a lot of air-time because of the nature of the press we have (Mail, Express, Telegraph, Sun, Times) and the effect that has on what the BBC talks about. For sure, we probably have a core of 20-25% who are resolutely authoritarian in outlook (and thus amenable to fascism), but I'm not sure it extends that much beyond that.
