The only bit they missed was that it should have been the president promoting crank cures not some weirdo oddball.

The study warns that the death toll by the end of June from Covid-19 infections and other excess deaths is “likely to approach 59,000 across the entire English population, of which about 34,000 (57%) will have been care home residents”. Matt Hancock, the secretary of state for health, claimed that the government had “thrown a protective ring around care homes” since the start of the coronavirus crisis. So so sad.. And unnecessary.. |

Yeah the political aspect was the one thing missing from Contagion. Mind you Trump and Bojo are such cartoon caricatures, any attempt to portray leaders so woefully useless would have looked like an attempt at bad comedy and not serious drama. Meanwhile seems like a significant few top Republicans preparing to vote for Biden: nytimes.com Mattis seems to have unblocked the dam here. |

Trumpian levels of gaslighting from the Tories now. Won't tell us how the IOW trial is going Won't confirm numbers of people tested Won't report TTI numbers Make bad decisions, refuse to accept responsibility and then tell us we are lucky that things weren't worse. |

In general terms I am against statue toppling, throwing bikes at police horses and mob rule. Cheering on violent behaviour is not terribly smart either, and neither are mass gatherings in the middle of a pandemic. But hey, I'm sure the bourgoisie will continue to get off on cheering the mob - until the mob turns up at the bottom of their road... I realise that probably makes me a nazi in some people's eyes... |

That statue of Colston should have been taken down long ago. Most of the beneficiaries of his money have been white middle class people going to his schools and theatre. I believe the plans for it before it was removed was to put a plaque on the plinth explaining that he was "involved in the slave trade", removing the fact that he was partly responsible for the loss of 19,000 lives. I don't condone the way things were done but completely understand the anger.
