JRitchie, yes - I can't see how it will make the first round though, my impression is that financial market access and services in general will be 'later'? Early days yet though. Canute, I'm not disagreeing. But the only people who can shape things now are Tory MPs and those who can influence them, I am neither. |

larks - you're being a little obtuse here. The defence for voting down of the amendment, is a bit like the defence for keeping no deal on the table. Yes, it doesn't mean that the involvement with Erasmus is automatically ended, but again it's the "they need us more than we need them" attitude surfacing and that leads only one way. It is a preliminary to taking it off the table. It's like Caroline Flint supposedly having secured "worker's rights" in the withdrawal agreement, only for Johnson to scrap it immediately after the election. They can protest all they like that at the moment it doesn't mean participation is ended, but in reality it pretty much means it does. It signposts what comes next. Separately I see some Leaver/Tory journalists are now calling our side pathetic for not calling Johnson "Boris", saying it's so much more difficult to say Johnson that we're just being idiots claiming it's propaganda. I fear that's where debate has got us, and with attitudes like that there will be no coming together. The only acceptable coming together will be complete capitulation from our side. If so, I'm all for bloodying as many noses as we can before we get taken down. But anyway, momentarily distracted from politics, the media are hellbent on destroying Megan for daring to be "mixed-race" and not prostituting herself like Princess Di meanwhile. I, an avowed anti-monarchist, actually feel sorry for her. Tell me how calling her a "mixed race... descended from slaves" (c) Richard Kay Daily Mail is racist, bleats Piers Morgan from his bloated balloon of insufferable male white privilege. Can someone not take a pin and pop him somehow? Like I said, go down swinging, and take as many of them out as you can on the way. I always like the end of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid/Thelma and Louise. |

And no need to guess the preferred Momentum candidates. The comments are again mainly negative. Labour is still at war with itself. facebook.com |

Our relationship with the EU has long puzzled me, given that in my youth I seemed to recall the media telling us we were not wanted by some countries (for a variety of reasons). In an effort to understand a bit more about how we got here (in my lifetime), I am just starting to read The Castle Diaries 1964-1976. A big book. Barbara Castle was an impressive figure 'back in the day' she was a bit of a EEC sceptic in 1975 and I am intrigued by this period of politics which was bumpy at times.
