I have a Pi 2 that's been sitting in the draw for a while.

I have two projects in mind - one a full race timing - including track sectors - system for the Scalextric, which I need to restore first. The other will be something to do with the DJing, but I've yet to decide as I keep flopping between Midi controlled lights and something to do with filters.

I have a French colleague on my project, who is doing some music related stuff on his. He is very proud that he got a beep out of it.

He's hand writing his own code and mumbled something about merging Python and C stuff.

I was thinking about getting a Pi for my lad at Christmas, but I was afraid it'd be beyond me to help him; I ended up getting him a small rc helicopter instead. He's 10½ and quite bright.

Are these fairly intuitive?

Are there easy projects that'll engage a young lad?

Will I be able to keep up?

All answers gratefully received ;-)

Angus - it is a full blown computer but they have done a good job of making it as obvious as possible and gearing it towards young people. There are kits with breadboards and a few components, e.g. LEDs (bit like Fetch's project) which might be a good start for electronic tinkering. My lads were never into this sort of thing but I think it is something I would have loved as a kid. I can't remember when I got my first gadget (a multimeter) but I was quite young. Should be something you can do together.
